Gate Straight To Hell Itself – Industrial History

Deep in an abandoned mine, a mine shaft sits still as the groundwater trickles down. It really feels like a gate to hell when you are down there. This shaft was double-tracked to support carts moving in either direction.

The Star Mule Barn

In an abandoned mine, the main rail line slides into the gutter.

A smoky mine hospital lies abandoned.

The Ghost of the Mine Hospital stands in the doorway.

A mine hospital sits at the end of a collapsed mine tunnel.

A coal mine tunnel which has been resourcefully braced with rails to support the roof.

This transfer station moved carts back and forth between tracks when going up and down the shaft. It was powered by a hoist (left, not pictured).

This mine hoist solely existed to power a transfer station, making small movements to shift carts between tracks.
